Ultra Chmicha is Ilyas El Maliki’s club in the Kings League, the seven-a-side football competition founded by Gerard Piqué. Ilyas is its president. In less than two years it has played the Kings World Cup Clubs in Paris and reached the final of the first Kings League MENA season in Riyadh. Here is the club’s story so far.

Born from the Nations run

In January 2025, Ilyas chaired Morocco’s team at the Kings World Cup Nations and took it to the semi-finals (the full story is in Morocco at the Kings League). That run earned him a club of his own. On 16 February 2025, Ilyas and Piqué announced it live on Kick, in front of more than half a million viewers: Ultra Chmicha, the first wildcard team of the Kings World Cup Clubs 2025.

The name was already familiar to his audience: Ultra Chmicha is also what his fans call themselves. In Darija, chmicha is a diminutive of chems, the sun, and his stream titles put a 🌞 next to the club’s name.

First tournament: Paris, June 2025

The Kings World Cup Clubs was played at the Cupra Arena in Villepinte, near Paris. Ultra Chmicha lost its first match 5–4 to PANAM All Starz on 1 June 2025. In the losers’ bracket on 5 June, it drew 5–5 with Germany’s Futbolistas Locos FC and went out 2–1 in the shootout. Ilyas took his team’s President’s Penalty in both matches and scored both times.

Kings League MENA: the first split

In autumn 2026, Ultra Chmicha joined Kings League MENA, the league’s Middle East and North Africa competition, played at the Cool Arena in Riyadh by teams from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait. The league phase had three chapters:

  • A perfect start: five wins in five matches, including a shootout win over 3BS on matchday 4 and a 5–3 win over Bakhira FC in the Moroccan derby on matchday 5. After that round, Ultra Chmicha was the only team with five wins.
  • Three defeats in a row: on matchday 7, Saudi side DR7 won 8–4, and on matchday 8, Red Zone came back from two goals down to win 6–5.
  • A comeback to finish: on matchday 9, Ultra Chmicha came from behind to beat FWZ, the league leaders, a match the league’s official account called a “remontada”. The club finished third in the league phase.

The playoffs

  • Quarter-final: Ultra Chmicha 7–6 Turbo (Egypt). At 6–6, the match went to Matchball Mode, and Marc Granero scored the winner, his fourth goal of the night. Co-president Yassine Bouguesaa converted the President’s Penalty.
  • Semi-final, 30 October 2026: Ultra Chmicha 8–5 3BS (Jordan), a rematch of the matchday 4 shootout.
  • Final, the same night: FWZ 5–4 Ultra Chmicha. FWZ, the Kuwaiti team of the streamer Fwaz, became the first Kings League MENA champions.

The people behind the club

  • Ilyas El Maliki, president. In the Kings League, the president is part of the show: he can take a penalty during the match.
  • Yassine Bouguesaa, co-president, who scored the President’s Penalty in the quarter-final.
  • Yannick Carrasco, vice-president. The former Belgium international, who plays for Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League, joined during the season and scored a President’s Penalty against DR7.
  • On the pitch: before the Final Four, Marc Granero had won four MVP awards, Dani Liñares led the league with nine assists, and Walid Jaadi led it with 63 successful dribbles.
